Question: Which consumer list source is the best to work with?

Answer: It really depends who has the better coverage for your target criteria. The best way to do this is to run the same criteria through multiple compilers to see what each is reporting in terms of available counts. Although all compilers share a lot of the same data, each has its areas of strength over the rest. This can almost always be flushed out through a multi-compiler list request. This is something we do all the time here at MP for our clients since we have relationships with all of the various compilers.

Question: What kind of response rate can I expect on my direct mail piece?

Answer: The question you should be asking is “What response rate do I need?” There are businesses that can generate a great ROI on a 1/10th of 1% response rate, while other businesses might need 3%. It all depends on what a new customer is worth to you and how much you are willing to spend to get a new customer. Once you know this number, you just figure out what type of response rate you need to meet that number.
