VDP Print Production
We highly recommend that you use a “layout” application to prepare your final artwork, such as Adobe InDesign. While it is technically possible to design your layout in another application we accept (like Adobe Illustrator, Adobe Photoshop or QuarkXPress), these programs are not optimal for VDP, and we will need to rework your materials to process your campaign. Ideally, you should build both sides of your layout into a single file, rather than providing separate files for each page.
Do not export final press-ready PDFs when using VDP. We will need to manipulate the native elements to integrate the variable aspects into your design.
You are welcome (and encouraged) to send low-resolution PDFs as proofs of your work. Modern Postcard will use these proofs in the initial evaluation of your materials, and reference them throughout the VDP process as a quality check.
Use the asset collection utilities that are built into InDesign and QuarkXpress. The collection utilities allow you to gather the files with all fonts and images used in your layout(s).
- InDesign: Under the File Menu, click on “Package…”
- QuarkXPress: Under the File Menu, click on “Collect for Output…”
Use a file compression utility to protect your graphics. A file compression utility (e.g. Winzip or Stuffit) protects your graphics before transmitting them across the internet.
Incorrect submissions can lead to delays which could impact your final turnaround time.
