Customer Spotlight – The Beck Group
Q: Who is The Beck Group and what type of services do you provide?
A: Beck offers a full spectrum of professional services including development, planning, architecture, interior design, construction and sustainability consulting. Beck, headquartered in Dallas, maintains a team of over 450 employees, 40 percent of whom are LEED® APs, working among a network of offices in Atlanta, Austin, Cabo San Lucas, Denver, Fort Worth, Houston, Mexico City, San Antonio and Tampa. Founded in 1912, the firm has completed numerous high-profile projects, including The Nasher Sculpture Center in Dallas, Texas, the Museum of Contemporary Art in Los Angeles, California, the Dali Museum in St. Petersburg, Florida, the Martin Luther King, Jr. Federal Building in Atlanta, Georgia, and Georgia Institute of Technology’s Hinman Building in Atlanta, Georgia.
Q: Think back to one of your most favorite or memorable projects. What made it so unique?
A: One of our most memorable projects is the Pascal Field House we designed and constructed for Duke University. Charged with the task of making an extremely tight deadline (football season) our team worked around the clock and very closely with the University and the City of Durham to open the building on the first day of football practice. What made this so unique was the teamwork and trust between Beck (architect and contractor), Duke, and the City. It took collaboration and communication between all three to meet this tight schedule. During this process, Modern Postcard helped us by producing a fund raising postcard for Alumni weekend. This allowed both alumni and recruits to get a glimpse of the future of Duke Football.
Q: How did you learn about Modern Postcard and how would you describe your experience working with us?
A: I’ve been using Modern Postcard for years! Hard to remember exactly how I learned about your company, but it must’ve been from a colleague who was as impressed with you as I am now. In my line of work, deadlines are a huge part of my day and Modern Postcard has never failed to meet or exceed deadlines and always provide excellent quality and customer service.
Q: Why do you choose to use one of our larger card formats, the Folded Triple Sumo for your marketing efforts, and how do you use them?
A: We use the Folded Triple Sumo to stand-out amongst the others. The size allows us both plenty of space for images/text, while small enough to be different. We mainly use them as hand-outs at conferences, career fairs or as leave-behinds for our clients.
Q: Tell us about Beck’s community involvement programs.
A: Beck is dedicated to aiding the communities in which we practice. Each year The Beck Group employees donate an average of 40 hours of community service and charitable activity work. That equates to over 10,000 hours of community service each year. In 2007, Beck established The Beck Community Development Foundation dedicated to meeting the needs of underdeveloped communities in Central America, Mexico and the United States.
To celebrate our 100th anniversary, we have designed a campaign where our employees and their family members can participate in activities design to give back to our communities. Starting January and continuing throughout the year, The Beck Group, through our non-profit foundation, The Beck Community Development Foundation (501C3), will be presenting 100 donations of time, effort, hands-on labor, fundraising, etc. to charitable organizations in cities where the company has an office.
Q: If you are at liberty to say, what projects are in the works or on the horizon for Beck?
A: We are currently providing design/build services for a new building at the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) in Atlanta, GA. We were recently awarded the design and construction of the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration’s (NOAA) National Water Center at the University of Alabama in Tuscaloosa, AL.
